My maternal grandmother
Was a woman of many talents
A milliner
A seamstress
A cook
A carpenter
She made my writing desk
Where I find daily solace
She taught me
How to hem by hand
How to shell peas
How to play cards
How to calm a crying child
I keep her perfume
Cradled amongst mine
And her hatbox
By my bedside
